Officials explained that the initiative was part of a broader effort to address growing safety concerns in tourist-heavy areas, where non-compliance with traffic rules has become increasingly frequent among visitors.
“We’re seeing a lot of foreigners ignoring basic traffic laws, especially helmet use,” one officer noted during the operation. “It’s a serious issue we can’t overlook.”
In several cases, tourists were also found riding without proper international licenses or incomplete vehicle papers, prompting authorities to seize some of the motorbikes involved.
The enforcement comes after a rise in local complaints about the reckless behavior of foreign riders, particularly in popular neighborhoods like Pererenan and Canggu. Police emphasized that Indonesian traffic laws apply equally to locals and tourists.
“There are no exceptions — everyone on the road must follow the rules,” the officer added firmly.
Law enforcement officials have also reached out to scooter rental agencies, asking them to inform clients of the legal requirements before handing over vehicles.
The 30 offenders will need to go through the official legal process, including the payment of fines according to the specific infractions. Authorities confirmed that similar operations will continue in the coming weeks to ensure greater accountability on the roads.
