The Badung Regency government is preparing for a significant influx of tourists during the upcoming 2024 Christmas and New Year holidays. One of the key challenges they are addressing is traffic congestion, especially in high-traffic tourist areas.

I Ketut Suiasa, the Deputy Regent of Badung, revealed that authorities have identified potential traffic hotspots and are coordinating with various agencies to mitigate congestion.

"Year-end holidays bring challenges as Bali sees a large number of visitors. We have mapped out areas prone to traffic jams, particularly in South Badung," said Suiasa.

Reflecting on previous years' severe traffic jams, Suiasa emphasized the importance of community involvement. He called on local village leaders to ensure smooth operations within their respective areas. The local government is also working closely with the police and the Transportation Department to manage the flow of traffic.

"We have coordinated with the police and expect village participation to prevent traffic congestion in tourist areas," he added.

Suiasa predicted a further increase in tourist arrivals to Bali, noting that infrastructure improvements have been made to support locals and tourists during the busy year-end period.

"Tourist arrivals are expected to rise, with around 15,000 visitors per day, a number that will increase during the holidays. This will undoubtedly benefit the local economy," he explained.

Anak Agung Ngurah Rai Yuda Darma, Head of the Badung Transportation Department, announced that additional personnel would be deployed at high-risk traffic areas. Key locations such as Ngurah Rai International Airport, Kuta, Nusa Dua, Canggu, and the Kapal-Lukluk route connecting Denpasar and Gilimanuk will receive special attention.

"We have prepared various traffic management strategies and will collaborate with the police to address potential issues," Darma said.

Last year, the Sarbagita area, including Denpasar, Badung, Gianyar, and Tabanan, experienced severe traffic jams. At one point, the Bali Mandara Toll Road was completely paralyzed, and tourists were forced to walk to Ngurah Rai Airport due to the gridlock. The Badung government is taking measures to prevent a repeat of such incidents during this peak season.
