This initiative aims to significantly reduce travel times for visitors. Previously, reaching Nusa Penida required a speedboat journey from Sanur Harbor, but the new service allows tourists to bypass this step entirely. Boats have already been allocated for the project, though an official launch date has yet to be announced.
Strategic Coastal Access
The airport's unique location—surrounded by ocean due to its runway built on reclaimed land—makes it ideal for sea-based transportation. The west side offers direct access to areas like Kuta, Seminyak, and Canggu, while the east connects to Benoa Bay.
Alleviating Traffic and Enhancing Connectivity
By providing an alternative to congested roads, the water taxi service aims to improve mobility around the airport and enhance the overall tourist experience. This project complements the upcoming Bali Urban Rail Network, a metro line that will eventually link the airport with key destinations, although it won't be operational until later in the decade.
Expanding Sea Transportation Options
Set to launch in 2025, the airport water taxi is part of a broader initiative to expand ocean transportation, including routes to nearby islands such as Nusa Lembongan and Lombok. Early next year, a service between Canggu and Nusa Dua is expected to begin, potentially with an airport stop.
Existing services like GoBoat have already shown the effectiveness of water taxis, offering over 300 daily departures. Popular routes connect areas like Canggu's Nelayan Beach with Uluwatu's Padang Padang Beach and shuttle services to Jimbaran.
A Step Toward Modernized Travel
The expansion of water taxi services marks a significant move toward modernizing Bali's transportation infrastructure, promising to reduce travel times and enhance the tourist experience while alleviating road congestion.
