Bali’s Tourism Landscape to Transform with Major Infrastructure by 2027

The North Bali International Airport will be built in Buleleng Regency, designed to accommodate over 32 million passengers annually. Aiming to rival top global airports like Hong Kong and Singapore, the project also emphasizes aligning with Balinese cultural values and environmental preservation. Its runway is planned on reclaimed offshore land to minimize local disruption.

To support this airport, a new toll road will connect Bali’s north and south, potentially through Jembrana and Buleleng Regency. The road will link the existing Mengwi-Gilimanuk toll to I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, reducing travel time between the two airports to just 30 minutes.

The President Director of PT BIBU Panji Sakti, Erwanto Sad Adiatmoko Hariwibowo, reassured that the toll road will ease island-wide traffic congestion, enabling seamless connectivity for residents and tourists alike.

The North Bali International Airport, funded by Chinese investors Chang Ye Construction Group with a budget of USD 3 billion (IDR 50 trillion), is set to create 200,000 jobs. Construction could begin within months, with a single runway operational by 2027 to alleviate pressure on Ngurah Rai International Airport.

While challenges remain, such as land acquisition and enhancing northern infrastructure, this ambitious initiative is poised to distribute tourism more evenly across Bali, driving economic growth and reducing congestion in the south.
