On the morning of January 16, a team comprising members of Satpol PP, the Public Works and Housing Agency (PUPR), Kuta Sub-District, and Kuta Village Office carried out a cleanup of the

area. This site is set to be transformed into an important landmark, both to honor the victims and raise global awareness of the tragedy.

The cleanup process began at 9:00 AM local time, with crews dismantling abandoned vendor stalls and using heavy machinery to level small structures still remaining on the land.

I Gusti Agung Ketut Suryanegara, head of Badung’s Civil Service Police Unit, explained that this cleanup followed the site’s official transfer to government ownership on January 1, 2025. “The land was designated as a government asset on January 1, and former occupants were instructed to vacate immediately,” he said. He further added, “If left neglected, the area could become rundown and attract illegal activities. To prevent this, we will construct a permanent wall around the site.”

Before the cleanup, the area was mainly used for parking and as a space for vendor stalls. The government has now decided to reorganize the site to better serve its purpose. A government representative confirmed, “The cleanup was not an eviction, but a necessary measure to manage the property as a government asset.”

The planned Bali bombing memorial museum will become an iconic symbol for the people of Bali and the global community. Funded by Badung Regency’s Regional Budget (APBD) by the end of 2024, the project will feature a public presentation of the museum’s design plans as an initial step toward transparency and public engagement.
